چکیده

Support-vector-machine image coding relies on the ability of SVMs for function approximation. The size and the profile of the e-insensitivity zone of the support vector regressor (SVR) at some specific image representation determines (a) the amount of selected support vectors (the compression ratio), and (b) the nature of the introduced error (the compression distortion). However, the selection of an appropriate image representation is a key issue for a meaningful design of the e-insensitivity profile. For example, in image-coding applications, taking human perception into account is of paramount relevance to obtain a good rate-distortion performance. However, depending on the accuracy of the considered perception model, certain image representations are not suitable for SVR training. Specifically, we derive the condition for image representation selection and the associated e-insensitivity profiles.

Image Classification via Sparse Representation and Subspace Alignment

Image representation is a crucial problem in image processing where there exist many low-level representations of image, i.e., SIFT, HOG and so on. But there is a missing link across low-level and high-level semantic representations. In fact, traditional machine learning approaches, e.g., non-negative matrix factorization, sparse representation and principle component analysis are employed to d...

A new classification method based on pairwise SVM for facial age estimation

This paper presents a practical algorithm for facial age estimation from frontal face image. Facial age estimation generally comprises two key steps including age image representation and age estimation. The anthropometric model used in this study includes computation of eighteen craniofacial ratios and a new accurate skin wrinkles analysis in the first step and a pairwise binary support vector...

Automatic Face Recognition via Local Directional Patterns

Automatic facial recognition has many potential applications in different areas of humancomputer interaction. However, they are not yet fully realized due to the lack of an effectivefacial feature descriptor. In this paper, we present a new appearance based feature descriptor, the local directional pattern (LDP), to represent facial geometry and analyze its performance inrecognition. An LDP feat...

Curvelet based Image Compression using Support Vector Machine and Core Vector Machine – A Review

Images are very important documents nowadays. To work with them in some applications they need to be compressed, more or less depending on the purpose of the application. To reduce transmission cost and storage requirements, competent image compression schemes without humiliation of image quality are required. Several image coding techniques were developed so far for both lossless and lossy ima...
